… a Unibroue Trois Pistoles.

This is a Belgian strong ale, disguised as a stout, that Unibroue claims is the beery equivalent of a port wine. It pours a very dark brown, with a finger and a half of tan foam that mostly dissipates rather quickly. Aroma is fruity, maybe cherries and dates, and roasted malts. I can also smell the alcohol. The taste is very lush — lots of dark cherries, a hint of chocolate,  some fig/date flavors. Nice and complex, very full bodied. The alcohol burns just briefly, then it finishes quite smooth.

I really like this and will now make a mental note to try more of Unibroue’s offerings. Previously I had only tried their 10 and La Terrible, both also Belgian strong ales, both of which I liked but not as much as the Trois Pistoles. I rated the Trois Pistoles a 4.0 (out of 5.0) on RateBeer.com; its average score from all raters is a 3.96, so it looks like everyone agrees with me.

I should also note that I’m currently having this Trois Pistoles to accompany pecan-encrusted tilapia in a sweet potato chipotle sauce. And tater tots. Because that’s how I roll.

Say, are you all getting tired of the beer postings? Because I could split these off into a separate beer review blog. I could call it The Drinker.
